Admissions Process

ADMISSION (Diocesan policy No. 5111)

Saint Matthew Catholic School admits students regardless of race, color, ethnic or national origin. The school accepts students with handicaps to the extent that it is able to service the student.

New students are accepted conditionally and are on probation for the first year. Any student who has been placed on probational status for either academics or behavior will not be allowed to pre-register in the spring without approval of the principal. The principal may also, at the end of the year, not allow a student to return.

Potential students are interviewed by the principal or assistant principal. Most recent report card must accompany the student. When a student is accepted for enrollment the office staff will notify the parent. The administration of the school reserves the right to accept or deny students for enrollment.

Parents interested in tuition assistance should not apply for financial aid until their child has been accepted for enrollment.

AGE REQUIREMENTS

In compliance with State regulations, no child is to be admitted to the first grade unless he/she is six (6) years old on or before September 1st of the school year, or has been enrolled in the first grade in another State prior to transfer.

To be eligible for pre-kinder: a child is to be four (4) years old on or before September 1st of the school year.

To be eligible for kindergarten: a child is to be five (5) years old on or before September 1st of the school year, or has been enrolled in kindergarten in another State prior to transfer.

The child's original birth certificate is required for verification of age.

REGISTRATION

Registration is complete only when all the necessary documents have been given to the school. This includes: general registration form; original health and immunization records; physical exam form; original birth certificate; original baptismal certificate (if applicable); a transcript of grades or most recent report card; and the medical records from the previous school. Fees must also be paid to finalize registration. No fees are refundable when a student is withdrawn or revoked from the school.
